Community Life

Flourish is a neighborhood where people do life together.

More than just a neighborhood, Flourish is a community of people committed to accepting each other and doing life together. Neighbors with and without disabilities live side by side, by design. Each resident’s care plan is built around them.

Safety

Your son or daughter has independence, with help close by.

Most adults with intellectual disabilities don’t need someone holding their hand all day. They need structure, people who know them, and someone to call at night. Flourish is built around that.

  • Community Directors who know every resident. Ken and Kelly plan the social life of the neighborhood and are the people parents can check in with. The homeowners’ association pays for their salaries.
  • Someone on call at night. Many homes can have a basement apartment for someone trusted who’s on call in exchange for the apartment.
  • Families right alongside. Parents can live in the neighborhood, in their own home or with their son or daughter.
  • A campus full of people who care. Flourish is on the Adventures in Missions campus, surrounded by people who care.

Community Directors

About Ken and Kelly Mitchell.

Ken and Kelly grew up together in Hall County and have known each other for more than 40 years. They’ve been married 29 years and have three children, Makenzie, Madison, and Riley.

From 2007 to 2011 they were houseparents at Eagle Ranch, a Christ-centered children’s home. There they got to know the staff and residents of Our Neighbor, a Gainesville nonprofit serving people with disabilities. In 2011 they left Eagle Ranch to start Stable Life, a Christ-centered ministry they run from their home in Gainesville, with fitness training, horsemanship, and respite.

As Community Directors at Flourish, they:

  • Oversee the community
  • Organize social activities
  • Coordinate with caretakers and family members
  • Recommend care and resources: day programs, employment, care providers, and more
